Sand and Water> SERIES INFO

This body of work consists of 14 pieces of found object sculpture, paper collage and mixed media paintings. Most of these works were exhibited in a solo exhibition titled Sand and Water at Exit Gallery in Kent, Ohio in April of 2006. It was reviewed in the Free Times.

Pulled from writings and ruins of ancient Egypt, some of the works are an homage to Queen Hatshepsut. Interlaced and overlapping hand-torn pieces of discolored pages from old books convey a layered approach symbolizing an ancient belief system which itself is composed of many intricate layers. With the sculpture, the artist employs multicolored pieces of weathered wood, piano parts, wire mesh, the paper from steeped tea bags, metal objects, and fabric. Primarily abstract, these allude to important Egyptian memorials, artifacts, and practices including a temple, funerary vessels, and mummification.
