The Hidden> SERIES INFO

This body of work consists of forty-five pieces of found object sculpture and mixed media works on paper. They were exhibited in a solo exhibition titled The Hidden at the Kelly Randall Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio in October of 2003.

The work exhumes the undercurrents of Christianity, secret societies, heretical beliefs and the interconnectedness that exists between them. With the sculpture there is a layer built up with paint, plaster and usually mixed with organic plant matter, such as rose petals, to emphasize the artist's interest pertaining to Sophia-female wisdom. The 26 small paintings on paper are divided into three groupings: The Crusades, The Dark Ages, and The Inquisition, and confront Christianity's history with a frantic and urgent hand. The palette is dark and the technique is rough and granular in texture. Elements of abstract text can be found throughout, reinforcing the interest of ancient writings and the artist's research, which yielded statements to accompany each of the forty-five pieces.
